Gilera 124 FL Speciale Strada

How could a 50 Year old motorcycle that is not sitting in a museum have only 109 miles?
This bike was left behind in a dealership that closed. The bike had no seat and no voltage regulator when sold. One clue in this bikes history is found in the owners manual under the section titled "Starting and Riding" - "Absolutely avoid starting the engine with detached battery wires. This action would no doubt damage the voltage regulator." Quite possibly the voltage regulator was damaged in pre-sales and thus would explain why the seat was removed to service the bike. A clever buyer wired a battery directly to the coil and enjoyed riding the bike on battery power only. Of course this lasted until the battery drained and the bike was parked. Eventually the bike was purchased by a member of a famous motorcycle gang who shall remain unmentioned. The tank emblems made attractive souvenirs and were removed and lost. A 'bobber' style seat was attached and the bike was used in a college movie project. A divorce forced the sell off of belongings and the original owner repurchased the motorcycle for the same price he had sold it. The bike then sat for another 20 years until it found its way to us.
Motor, Transmission, Wheels, & Steering are still silky smooth. No hornets nest, mice droppings, etc.
Really well stored. Just slightly rubbed and dinged while sitting.

Wanted - tail light, metal screw on tank badges, Gilera 124 Sport Seat, original battery, Aprilia dipper horn switch, key, a good cleaning, and fresh gas. Let us know if you can help locate these parts.

This special "Florida" edition features chrome fenders front and rear and chrome fuel tank

Pirelli 3.00 x 17 rear and 2.75 ribbed front tire still have nubs. Like new if not for dry rot
Perfectly straight light weight alloy wheels

124 Thumper Exhaust in solid - a sign of good dry storage

Veglia Tach and Speedometer cluster. Lucite needles and 109 Miles

                                                                  Patina Patina Patina

Crank case holds 50 year old oil with no signs of seepage

                                                   Factory polished right side case

Upside potential for this bike once cleaned up
Now. What to do with this little gem...
1. Leave "as is" and don't touch the patina
2. Disassemble, clean, reassemble
3. Full tear down restore
What do you think?
